Results of a study showed that adults who suffer from asthma and were exposed to heavy traffic pollution , experienced a 80 percent increase symptoms and those exposed to the smoke of the fires , an increase of 11 percent
Dr. . John Burgess at the University of Melbourne and co-author on the study, said that " now it is recommended that adults who suffer from asthma should not live on the streets loaded with traffic and the use of wood heaters should be changed with heat new , that their health not deteriorate . "
In the study , was elected in 1383 a group of persons 44 years of age , respondents to their exposure to smoke from wood fires and traffic pollution . Participants were asked about their level of exposure , frequency of exposure to heavy vehicle traffic near homes and levels of wood smoke in winter .
Results are based on self-reporting of symptoms over a period of 12 months . Participants reported complications in 2-3 weeks ( severe persistent asthma ) for the same time .
Traffic is thought that aggravates asthma through the streets of inflammation . Particles of heavy smoke machines are causes of inflammatory allergic reactions to sensitive people who suffer from asthma .
" Our study also found a link between wood smoke exposure and severity of asthma and the use of wood for heating is harmful ," said Dr. . Burgess .
The study was published in the journal Respirology and is the first of its kind to assess the impact of traffic pollution and smoke fires for people over average with asthma .
